Christmas

I am so blessed.  I spent yesterday surrounded by family and friends, and will again today.  I am missing my dad who died this year and my aunt who died a few years ago.  She loved Christmas so much.  She used to watch the newspaper for the holiday TV specials guide and mail it to me when the kids were little (keeping a copy for herself.)  If she had had a DVR, I'm sure she would not have been able to record anything on it all year as it would have been full of Christmas movies and shows.  Her daughter who is my sister-cousin and my mother and sisters and brother all love Christmas, too.  It represents our wonderful family times together.  It will be hard this year on all of us as we celebrate later today at my mom's house.  I feel my father's absence even as the hours of our get together approach.
It's a strange Christmas morning as Ed is working and my big kids are sleeping still.  I'm having coffee and enjoying a pumpkin roll that our friend Jan left in a package at our door. I'm also working on my Christmas mailing list since I don't have my letters mailed yet.  Every year I have to redo or reformat my list, it seems.  Unfortunately, this year I have to remove more names, my Uncle Hugh and Aunt Audrey.  What a happy childhood I had due to the caring relatives I had.  I have many cousins who I am proud to claim as family.
God bless us--every one.  Merry Christmas!

Mighty Guins

Last night I watched the Pens lose a tough game to the Devils, and tonight is a scoring fest.  So far 8-1 with the Islanders looking sad.  It would be sweet to see DuPuis get a hat trick on top of Sykora's.  Crosby is sooo good.  he makes things happen every time he's on the ice.  The Pens are lucky to have him.  Fight now-- 8 minutes left.  Let's get our top guys out of there...

Getting Eileen to blog

I'm trying to get my friend, Eileen, to start a blog since she loves to travel and always has great stories to share from her travels.  She wouldn't have to email everyone with bits and pieces of her travelog, but could blog when she thinks of something.  The people following her blog would be alerted to a new posting and could go there and read it and respond.  Her pictures could all be on flicker, too.  I'm going to work on this over the holidays.
I am still smiling to myself over a wonderful dinner I shared with some excellent friends on Monday, bringing to mind one of my favorite quotes: W.B. Yeats (an Irishman) from The Municipal Gallery: Revisited  "Think where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory was I had such friends."  Slainte mhath!!   (slawn-cha va)   Gaelic for Good Health--cheers.

Multitasking

I wish that I could listen to TV or radio while reading a book, while looking at something online.  And that's only when I'm home.  It seems that there are so many good stories out there! (If this has typos, it's because I do a fast hunt and peck and look at what I'm typing and the buffer is not keeping up with me for some reason.)  I stayed up late last night because I stumbled upon A Christmas Carol--the one with George C. Scott and I HAD to watch it!  I like the one with Allistair ? as Scrooge, and Mr. Magoo's, too, especially when the thieves are singing--"La, La, La lala la la- we're just blankety blank blank NO GOOD!  We're reprehensible.  We'll steal your pen and pencible."  I love it.  Back to work....

Looking for literacy blog

I have tried Twitter--signed up my phone, and also My Space and Facebook, but haven't really posted any personal info.  I don't really think I'll have time to keep up with this.  I'd like to find a good blog on literacy, but no luck after checking for some colleges' schools of education.

library 2.0 learner

I just attended a terrific seminar on the future of libraries with speakers Thomas Frey and Michael Stephens.  i was inspired to "get with it."  Tonight I joined Facebook and My Space, started this blog and am going to look up twitter.
